Yo Colorado Beanie Review
Yo Colorado Beanie keeping me warm on the windy summit of Quandary Peak

Yo Colorado Beanie Review

The Yo Colorado Retro Beanie is the perfect solution for your hat needs while hiking in Colorado year round. Hiking in state 38 can be unpredictable, even if the trailhead temperature is 70 degrees, there is a chance it could be snowing on the summit. When I am packing for a high elevation hike, I always bring extra layers in addition to a hat and gloves, just in case.

On trips like Quandary Peak,  I generally start around 3 or 4AM. The sun is still sleeping and summer temperatures are often in the 30’s. Having a comfortable and warm hat is absolutely key to having a successful hike. The hat I have found myself wearing a lot lately is the Yo Colorado Retro Pom Beanie. This acrylic hat is extremely comfortable and will keep you warm when temperatures get cold. My mom always told me its what on the inside that counts (kind words for an ugly kid) but this hat is very visually appealing and earns me compliments on each hike.

One of my biggest pet peeves with beanies is when they come too small and need to be stretched out in order to fit your head. For the first several days of wearing they fit tight and slip off your head (fun fact, I will sometimes stretch them out on a football – not a great look).  This is not an issue with the Yo Colorado Retro Pom, it fits great right out of the box and only gets more comfortable as it breaks in.

The only negatives I can think of with this hat is the material its made out of and its coverage on your head. Acrylic is not the warmest or the best smelling when you sweat it in. However, I can honestly say that I have never worn this hat and felt like I needed more protection from the elements. In addition, this hat does not cover my ears which can leave your skin exposed to the elements on windy days.

If you are looking for a warm spring/summer or even mild winter hiking beanie, check out the Yo Colorado Retro Beanie and the other beanies that Yo Colorado has to offer!

5 Year Later Update: After 5 years of relatively heavy use of the Yo Colorado beanie, the hat is still in great shape. It has stretched a bit over time, but still has great form. The colors are not fading and its very easy to clean. This hat is in my bag for every spring or fall hike and I continue to enjoy it! This hat has been through A LOT over time and still holds up great all this time later.

*Sometimes I am paid (in complimentary gear or money) to review products. All opinions above are my own and have nothing to do with that of the company.
